A Magical Tortworth Court Wedding – Loz and Jack’s Fairytale Celebration

This wedding took place at Tortworth Court, also known as De Vere Tortworth Court, a historic wedding venue in Gloucestershire. Loz and Jack were married on 21 March 2024 and planned a wedding inspired by Beauty and the Beast with an alternative festival style twist. The wedding was filmed by Anneka Ireland Videography, a wedding videographer specialising in natural and cinematic storytelling. Key moments included an emotional ceremony, a first dance that included Jack’s daughters and an evening reception filled with live music, festival details and a packed dance floor.

The Proposal

Jack proposed to Loz on Friday 13th May 2022, a date Loz considers her lucky day. He took her back to the location of their secret first date at White Swan Lake, creating a moment filled with meaning and nostalgia.

When Jack presented the ring box, Loz was so overwhelmed with emotion that she placed the ring on her finger herself, smiling from ear to ear. Jack had secretly packed a blanket, champagne and flutes, and they toasted their future together on their jetty as the sun set. It was a private and deeply personal proposal that reflected their relationship perfectly.

Morning Feelings and Getting Ready

On the morning of their wedding at Tortworth Court, Loz felt excited and calm, with emotions building as the ceremony approached. Jack felt a mix of excitement and nerves, particularly about standing at the end of the aisle and delivering his speech.

Loz wore a Dando London wedding dress purchased from Mollie Leigh Bridal, a boutique run by Jack’s younger sister. Staying true to her alternative style, she chose custom made Converse trainers created by Crystal Shoe Designs, something she had decided on long before choosing her dress.

Jack hired his suit from The Kent Wedding Centre, choosing navy blue tones with tails, an ivory paisley waistcoat and ivory cravat. He was the only one to wear a red rose buttonhole, reflecting Loz’s bouquet and standing out against his groomsmen.

A Vision Inspired by Beauty and the Beast with an Alternative Twist

Loz’s love of Disney and Beauty and the Beast shaped the romantic vision for their Tortworth Court wedding. The mansion house, library and orangery provided a setting that felt like a true fairytale.

Romantic details included candelabras, red roses, Belle jars, orchestral versions of the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack and references to ‘Tale as Old as Time’ and ‘Be Our Guest’.

Balancing this was the couple’s alternative style and shared love of music and festivals. Leather jackets with pin badges, black nails, skull motifs, skeleton hands forming heart shapes and festival wristbands set the tone for the evening. Guests embraced face gems, heart shaped glasses and blow up guitars, with ‘Death to Us Party’ signage adding a playful edge.

The Ceremony and Memorable Moments

One of Loz’s favourite moments was their first kiss, which ended with Jack wearing a hint of red lipstick transferred during the kiss. Their first dance, which Loz had been nervous about, became one of the most meaningful moments of the day and included Jack’s daughters on the dance floor.

For Jack, the most powerful moment was seeing Loz walk down the aisle, leaving him emotional and speechless.

Both agree that the biggest highlight was the party itself, seeing everyone enjoying the day and embracing the magic they had created.

Flowers Styling and Cake Design

Loz wanted a winter inspired, Victorian and gothic feel, choosing bold colours including navy, cabernet red, gold accents and ivory. Roses and ivy featured heavily throughout the styling.

Florals were created by Natasha Dean of Fleur du Monceux, who designed the bouquets and buttonholes. Natasha also created the wedding cake through her business Cakefleur.

The cake featured ornate detailing, gold accents, red roses and gold skulls incorporated into the design. Loz had not seen the cake before the day and was completely blown away when she saw it set up in the orangery.

Food and Evening Entertainment

The catering team at Tortworth Court provided canapés, a three course wedding breakfast and a pizza buffet for the evening party. Loz and Jack attended a tasting at the venue six months before the wedding and were hugely impressed by the food.

Evening entertainment was provided by Radio Avenue, performing pop punk, rock and emo anthems. DJ Martin Long of MGL Disco continued the party with a packed dance floor until carriages.

Why They Chose Wedding Videography

Loz and Jack chose to have their Tortworth Court wedding filmed so they could relive moments they missed, including each other’s mornings and their guests reactions.

Watching the wedding film back, they love seeing their guests enjoying themselves and how the music choices reflect the emotion and energy of the day. Although unsure at first, Loz now considers videography one of the best decisions they made, praising how discreetly the day was filmed.

Advice for Couples Planning Their Wedding

Loz and Jack encourage couples to set a budget early, allow a buffer and secure dream suppliers as soon as possible. They advise focusing on meaningful details and planning a day that truly reflects who you are, regardless of trends or opinions.
