A Quirky Bury Court Wedding
Jamie + Laura got married at a beautiful old church in Bentley then onto the quirky Bury Court for their super-fun Surrey wedding in July 2022. We chatted to the couple at the start of the year and got to hear all about their exciting wedding plans, the joy I felt when they mentioned that their doggy, Gus would be attending the wedding was just unreal! Dogs at weddings always make it more fun!
We asked Laura a few questions about the proposal and their wedding ideas and vision:
The Proposal
“It happened on 2nd May 2021. We were going to meet up with family on Sunday afternoon and on the way went for a walk with our dog. In the Spring, I always talk about going to the woods near us to see the bluebells (it’s truly special place and attracts quite a lot of people) and so I was delighted that Jamie suggested we go there! I was so happy he suggested it and so we took some amazing pictures, stopped at the ice cream van and had a lovely morning. I didn’t notice at the time, but Jamie was nervously trying to find a quiet spot to stop and pop the question. We found a quiet spot and I propped the phone up to take the classic timed photo and as I turned around to check that Jamie and our dog Gus were ready, they were down on one knee! I always thought I would know when it was going to happen but it caught me totally off guard and I did the ugliest cry ever!.”
What made the day unique?
Laura said, “The most important thing for us is that we wanted everyone to have fun! Music/dancing and food/drink were the top things on our list. We chose to get married near Farnham as we met just down the road at Farnham Golf Club almost 7 years ago. We wanted to have an ‘activity’ for people to enjoy during our drinks reception. As keen golfers, it was only right that we had 6 hole mini golf and we were so glad that we did!!”
The Preparations
Jamie & Laura chose the Preparations and Standard Package wedding video coverage meaning we started at Bury Court 3 hours before the ceremony to film all of the getting ready. Laura felt nervous and surprisingly calm but both were just so excited for their Bury Court Barn wedding day!
When asked about her dress, Laura said “I visited White Lace and Butterflies in Great Missenden. I knew I wanted something simple and classic but couldn’t quite find what I was looking for. I stood in their beautiful shop whilst they phoned the designer at Savin London and asked him to make me a bespoke gown so it could be exactly what I was looking for!”
Laura’s BLUE Loeffler Randall wedding shoes were to die for! They look so comfortable and were really unique. Laura said “The classic ivory satin shoes just weren’t for me and this way I can wear them again and again!” – a fantastic wedding tip!
Special memories & moments
Laura told us a few special moments that stay in her mind from her amazing Bury Court Wedding day…
“Seeing each other for the first time as I turned the corner and walked down the aisle!”
“Jamie’s speech and the many tears that came with it!”
“When the band started – Soul Supreme!” – even nan was fully involved in this awesome band!
What lovely memories that they have, but the final one is another great wedding tip for couples who are in the wedding planning process now:
“We made sure we took a few minutes of the day to stand back (together) and take it all in (we knew it would be easy not to see each other all day). So we went for a drive between the ceremony at church and our reception, we had a big hug and realisation that we were husband and wife whilst we waiting for everyone to eat.”
Why Laura & Jamie chose to have a wedding videographer
We asked Laura why they decided to have their wedding filmed and she said, “A few months before our wedding day we watched Jamie’s parents wedding video and it was so special to see friends and family 30 years younger – and sadly some who are no longer with us. I think it was quite rare at that time to have a wedding film but it was so special to see. We felt we couldn’t miss out on that chance, we hope we are lucky enough to show our own children in another 30 years!”
Inspiration & Styling
Jamie & Laura wanted colourful country garden/meadow flower type flowers for their Bury Court wedding. It was so important for their flowers to be as natural as possible.
So, who made the cake? Laura said, “Say It With Cake – by Nell Head. We wanted a semi-naked cake to let the flowers do the talking. 3 tiers – Salted caramel, Lemon, White choc and raspberry.” It looked devine!
We asked about the food and Laura told us, “Bark N Render did the catering. They made it very difficult to choose as all of their food we tried was DELICIOUS! The canapes were to die for and they brought us our own little platter during the day to make sure we had eaten something!”
The Evening
When we asked Laura & Jamie if they wanted a DJ or a band for their Bury Court wedding, they said, “We knew we wanted someone special and we knew it would be a difficult decision. We asked the team at Bury Court if they had seen any absolute standout bands and without hesitation they said Soul Supreme! They weren’t a recommended supplier they just genuinely thought they were brilliant and boy, were they right!”
The Best Bits!
We asked Laura & Jamie what were the best bits that they enjoyed about their wedding film and Laura said, “EVERYTHING! The getting ready, the I do’s, the mini golf, Gus jumping in the long wet grass, the speeches, us being competitive playing mini golf! And even the bits we weren’t in (as a bride and groom you just be everywhere and this way we didn’t miss out on seeing all the fun)!”
Jamie & Laura’s advice for couples planning their wedding is:
“Enjoy every moment of the planning and of course, the day. Do everything that YOU want to do, include everything YOU want to include. Everyone is there for you both and they want you to have the best day- after all it is YOUR day!
And absolutely have a wedding film, DO IT! You wont regret it, we could play our film on a loop and every time we watch it we see something new. It truly helps to bring back the most special moments and emotions from our special day.”
