A Caribbean and British barn wedding

Located at Upwaltham Barns, set in the South Downs National Park, West Sussex, Nicola and Adrian’s wedding brought a touch of the Caribbean to Chichester.
A tasteful combination of Jamaican and english influences, the wedding was as colourful in spirit as it was decoration.
Leaving the bride to get ready undisturbed with her bridesmaids and photographer Ana B , we focused on capturing the arrival of the guests and Adrian’s movements; a chat with the farther of the bride, the pinning of his buttonhole flower and finally the first glance of his bride. For the ceremony itself we set-up at the front of the room to capture the steel drum player welcoming people in and Nicola walking down the aisle. The alcoves in the exposed brick walls housed candles and flickered romantically throughout the ceremony whilst bright bouquets of purple and white flowers, tied with raffia, provided bursts of colour and drew reference to the six bridesmaids who wore dresses in different shades of purple.
Vows completed, the newly married bride and groom were treated to a well timed wolf whistle from the best man followed by a shower of confetti from their guests. Throughout the drinks interlude, the wheelbarrow of Jamaican red stripe got gradually lighter and thankfully, so did the rain. We seized this opportunity to shoot the couple together and with their nearest and dearest outside in the landscape. In addition to the outdoors we used the venues outhouses as a secondary backdrop for the videography which allowed us to capture a sneak preview of the bride and grooms dance moves under rows of quaint english bunting.
Inside the reception room the barns beams were traced with lines of fairy lights, the chairs left bare of fuss and adornment and the tables clean and crisp with white linen tablecloths and floral centrepieces. The cake continued the paired laid back style with layers of naked sponge decorated beautifully with flowers.
A musical affair, the Jamaican soundtrack continued into the day with a steel drum band providing the entertainment throughout the reception followed by a surprise performance by the groom who serenaded his new wife with a rendition of ‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers. Also performing an ode to Nicola were two of her bridesmaids who were immortalised on film in their gold bomber jackets reciting a song.
