Romantic Old Kent Barn Wedding

Shauna & Tom got married at the stunning and picturesque Old Kent Barn near Folkestone, Kent in October 2022. We asked Shauna & Tom some questions about how they planned the wedding and their journey.

The Proposal

Shauna told us, “Tom proposed whilst we were on a family holiday in Bakewell. We went on a hike with the two dogs and my mum, to the Three Shires Head where he then proposed. We then went back to Bakewell and surprised my nan and grandad with the news..” – Awwww, this is so lovely!

Visions & Ideas

Shauna & Tom told us “We wanted the day to feel very relaxed and relatively informal. We wanted it to be fun but also beautiful at the same time.” – The Old Kent Barn is the perfect venue for this style of wedding, being family owned, its meticulously run and everything flows smoothly and professionally on the day. The venue also organised the cake for the couple, the chose a cheese cake instead of a traditional cake which was a great idea!

The couple also told us, “We wanted our wedding to be autumnal, we wanted flowers to be partially dry with some fresh flowers. We originally wanted to go much more rustic but after choosing my dress we brought this back a little as my dress was the complete opposite. Flowers were done by Chic weddings

The Morning

Shauna & Tom chose the Preparations and Standard Package wedding video coverage meaning we started at The Old Kent Barn 3 hours before the ceremony to film all of the getting ready. It’s a really good idea, if possible, to get ready at the wedding venue, it cuts out any possible stress from traveling to different locations. The Old Kent Barn have different spaces for getting ready and the bridal and grooms suites are both gorgeous rooms!

Shauna’s dress was from Victoria’s bridal boutique– by the designer, Stella York. She just looked stunning!

On the Day

Shauna told us that she felt very calm and excited, she thought she would be nervous but just loved and enjoyed every moment and couldn’t wait to get down the aisle!

Tom felt more nervous than Shauna, he was more emotional but excited too.

Shauna told us about a particularly memorable moment for her on her wedding day “We loved all of the day, one moment that does stick in my mind is Toms speech particularly the end of it with “deadline transfer day”. Also for us the ceremony was memorable, its great being able to see it all back on our wedding video.”

“The food was one of the hardest decisions as the menu at The Old Kent Barn is amazing. We opted for BBQ, this is because we wanted to keep the relaxed idea going, having a buffet of amazing bbq food allowed people to get up and socialise before and after. It enabled people to have as much or little as they wanted. The BBQ menu options we opted for were slightly different to traditional bbq food, this was because we wanted to keep the food unique and memorable for the day.”

James Ireland was their photographer and we worked alongside each other really well. It was great fun too!

The Old Kent Barn Wedding Video

Shauna & Tom wanted to have an Old Kent Barn wedding video as they wanted to be able to look back at moments in the day that either both of them missed (such as the morning the morning) or to just simply re-watch and take in other parts like the ceremony.

The Evening

Shauna told us, “In the evening with had Dave the Saxophone Player. We wanted to have something fun in the DJ set that would encourage people up onto the dance floor.” – the party really kicked off with a bang!

They also had a sparkler photo too which all the guests really enjoyed and the video was great!

The Best Bits of the Old Kent Barn Wedding Video

Shauna & Tom told us, “We both loved seeing the getting ready parts of each other as well as looking at how happy all our guests were. The ceremony and speeches were also lovely to see.”

Tom & Shauna’s advice for couples planning their wedding is:

“Try not to overplan the day and be flexible with timings. Also put trust into suppliers that they know what they are doing and will deliver.”
