A Military Hendall Manor Barns Wedding

Melissa & Richard got married in June 2022 at the beautiful Hendall Manor Barns, set in the heart of East Sussex. We are honoured to be recommended suppliers at this venue and highly recommend it when considering a wedding venue.

We asked Melissa & Richard a few questions about their day:

The Proposal

Richard originally planned to propose in Barcelona however due to the trip having to be moved so many times (COVID) he proposed in their hotel room in the Lake District which he had filled with candles – how romantic!

What made the day unique

Melissa told us, “We originally had the vision of a very rustic barn filled with bunting and fairy lights, however when we discovered Hendall Manor Barns, which is less rustic and more modern, we fell in love with the place. Our vision then changed slightly and as we are a couple that don’t take life or each other too seriously, we knew we wanted a very laid back day with funny and personal touches. One being our name places which we decided to use funny and embarrassing photos of everyone (Melissa had spent hours diving down people’s Facebook pages) and another being our caricature displayed as a welcome sign! We are also both big foodies so a hog roast in the evening was a must, along with the sweet table and cake! Richard also served in the Royal Marines for 10 years, so having him in uniform along with his marine friends was really special.”

Memorable Moments

“Our friend Duane sung the bridesmaids down the aisle to an acoustic version of the F.R.I.E.N.D.S theme tune and then an acoustic version of “Never Too Much” for the bride and her dad. That was a really lovely touch which everyone loved.

The photo of the mother of the bride and mother of the groom, fighting with swords wearing the marines hats was hilarious and made for a fantastic photo!” said Melissa & Richard

Why have it filmed?

Melissa told us, “Your wedding day is the best day of your life and it goes so fast. Hopefully we will only get married once and having memories to watch back forever and hopefully show our children one day is really special. You also get to see parts of the day on the wedding video that you missed at the time.” – great points that should be considered by every couple getting married.

The Dress

Melissa found her ‘Dando’ dress at Confetti & Lace in Lakeside, Essex and knew it was the one as soon as she put it on.

The Wedding Day

Richard & Melissa both had never been so nervous in their lives – it was filled with adrenaline and excitement overload!

For the inspiration and styling, Melissa told us, “Emily Rowe is a friend and an amazing florist. We discussed our options with her and she was brilliant at providing ideas and options. We also used To Have and to Hire who provided the chandeliers and Wisteria trees which made an already beautiful venue just look incredible.”

Harry Batten Cakes made our cake. We wanted something simple with a rustic vibe and after looking at lots of photos of wedding cakes, decided on a semi naked 3 teir with gyposphelia and fruit. Topped by our lovely cake topper which obviously included the dog!”

For the food, Melissa & Richard said, “We are big foodies so this was an important one. Hendall Manor recommended a list of caterers and we loved the look of them all. We decided on Martin at Food4Thought as his menu looked amazing and he was able to provide the evening hog roast himself. We took a while deciding on the menu as we were worried about pleasing everyone but you can’t, so we went for something we thought most people would like and it went down a treat!”

Wedding Videography

Melissa & Richard booked our Preparations and Standard Package option meaning they had got us for most of the morning and throughout the day until the party was in full swing!

We asked them what were the best bits about their wedding film and they told us, “All of it!!! Seeing bits of the day that we didn’t see on the day is great. Seeing all of our guests enjoying themselves and just reliving the day is so so lovely.”

They also gave some great advice to couples planning their wedding…

‘Don’t stress! People told us this and we took their advice and didn’t. We were lucky because we had two years to plan and could take our time. Your guests won’t notice the small things and it’s your day. Do what YOU want to do and enjoy every moment.

Biggest advice…don’t skimp on the videographer!!’  – of course we agree with this one!
